Day 31 - URGENT!! |
Albert is in recovery! This is extremely urgent! Tuesday night a potential liver was identified for sweet little Albert. Although the match was not perfect, the doctor in charge determined that there was a good chance of success and, importantly, that Albert could not afford to wait any longer. He had waited too long already, and his deterioration was visible. This was his chance, so the decision was made to move forward. Albert and several New Day staff quickly headed to Beijing.
The surgery began at midnight and lasted until about 11am Wednesday morning. During the surgery we received updates that things were going well, and afterward the surgeon felt it had been a success. Hallelujah! Albert is now in ICU beginning the road to recovery. We are anxious to see how well he and his new liver adjust to each other over the next few days. You will be able to follow his progress on Facebook at NewDayFosterHome or here. This is a game changer for Albert; it means a chance at LIFE! But the medical fund at New Day is low due to Reece's liver transplant and more than a month in ICU. In China there is no insurance and fees are paid in advance. The funds for Albert's surgery must be raised immediately -- this isn't just *in case* a liver become available; this is for NOW, for REAL! Donations can be made through either of the buttons above, either to the Crowdrise Fund or directly to New Day. |
Meet Albert, a chubby-cheeked, one-year old with a big smile that just melts your heart. Albert is a cutie, but his little belly is distended, and his big, bright eyes are yellow with jaundice. If he doesn’t get a liver transplant soon, he won’t make it.
This sweet baby boy was abandoned on a village street in China when he was only three months old. He was born with a severe GI defect called biliary atresia, which affects his liver. Neither his parents nor the orphanage where he was abandoned had the resources to help him, and the local hospitals in his orphanage’s province were unable to give him the treatment for newborns with biliary atresia that could delay the need for a liver transplant. As a last ditch effort to save Albert’s life, his orphanage sent him to New Day Foster Home in Qingyundian Township, China, which has a loving staff of volunteers and nannies and a pretty amazing track record of working with the hospitals and doctors in Beijing who have the skills and equipment to perform the surgery that Albert needs to survive.
We want so badly for Albert to get this surgery, so he can be adopted by a loving family and live a long, happy life. We want him to experience the love of a family. We want him to celebrate not only his second birthday, but also his twenty-second, fifty-second, and ninety-second birthdays. But none of this will be possible without your love, support, prayers, donations, and a new liver for Albert.
We need to give this little guy a chance. Albert needs us to be his family, to be his voice. With your help, Albert has hope of a future. Albert needs you to advocate for him! Please give what you can, and please help spread the word! Every life is precious; little Albert’s life is no exception. Help us reach our goal of raising $40,000 to save Albert's life!

Take a look at the photo on the right. The child on the left is Albert. The child on the right is Mark. Mark used to look just like Albert; his liver barely functioning and time running out. The difference is startling isn't it? The difference is that Mark had his liver transplant last year. That's the difference that your donation can make. Please give generously.
