Day 9 - International China Concern Nanny Sponsorship
Chinese nannies are our greatest resource and a vital link to support the care of all children within our projects. They become the hand that holds the spoon – providing much needed nutrition to bodies that need to be nourished. They become arms that hold them and hearts to communicate that they are valued and loved. And, they become the voice that speaks words of encouragement as they learn to talk and to walk. ICC believes in small family-style groups that allow a child to integrate into a community of brothers and sisters, surrounded by the constant care of nannies that become Mothers, Fathers, Aunts or Uncles. For many it will be the only sense of “family” that they experience in life – with their nannies being at the very centre of everything they do. $500 supports one nanny for one month.
On a personal note, first I want to say what a special organization ICC is. I have been in contact with them for about five years now, and have visited several of their projects. Their work is truly outstanding. Their thoughtful and thorough approach to orphan care, community outreach and member care is (or should be) a model for others working in or hoping to work in this field. I am so grateful for the help and mentoring I have received from them along my own path. Secondly....nannies! They are the heart of what we do! One of the first areas that a team tackles when they enter a new, unsupported orphanage is hiring additional nannies just so there are more arms to snuggle babies, more hands to feed children and more faces to look into the children's eyes and send them a smile. If we can do nothing else, THIS makes a world of difference, and without nannies there truly is nothing we can do. Yet most every organization I know finds it so difficult to inspire people to become supporters for the nannies. Please take a minute and figure out how you can help ICC to continue this life-changing work. It may mean personal sacrifice; it may mean going out of your comfort zone to present the need to friends, family and co-workers. It is so worth it.
